Data Protection Officer (f/m/d)

Purpose of position

The key purpose of the Data Protection Officer (“DPO”) is to implement, maintain and continuously improve data protection management processes across the group, to ensure that the organisation is respecting all applicable data privacy laws and to act as the primary contact for privacy across the group. In this position, the reporting line is to the Head of Legal nevertheless, one will act as an independent advisor in performing their duties.

 

Key Tasks

  • Acting as a first point of contact for supervisory authorities, employees, shareholders, clients and data subjects on data privacy related questions
  • Initiating and participating in Privacy Impact Assessments
  • Responding to audit requests from clients or shareholders
  • Designing, implementing and monitoring processes to ensure data privacy compliance
  • Training employees (onboarding, yearly refresher and role-specific trainings) on data protection
  • Monitoring the privacy mailbox for queries arising in relation to data privacy
  • Collecting information to identify processing activities and analysing compliance of such processing activities
  • Reviewing and monitoring data processing agreements and negotiating the agreements with service providers and clients
  • Managing relationship with external legal counsel where local legal support is required
  • Maintaining documentation prescribed by privacy laws (e.g. Records of Processing, breach records)
  • Regularly monitoring compliance with applicable laws (particularly the GDPR)

 

Skills & Expertise

  • Excellent written and spoken English, further languages (particularly French, Dutch, Spanish, Italian or German) are a plus
  • Experience as a Data Protection Officer or comparable role (e.g. Privacy Manager, Privacy Lawyer)
  • Knowledge of data protection law (legal background is a plus, but not a must) and fundamental understanding of data security
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Good team-working skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment with strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to prioritize effectively
  • Flexible, with the ability to cope under pressure and switch between different tasks
  • Team player with the ability to proactively collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Dynamic and driven individual with initiative and a 'can-do' attitude
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines but at same time keeping work and advice to a high standard
